It is a privilege to have opportunities to give back in this life. As we grow older and wiser, we have a better understanding of how important small acts of kindness can be. We encourage seniors to look for ways to impact the world for the greater good, utilizing the talents and skills you have at your disposal.

MAKE WAVES! SHARE THE SEA! VOLUNTEER!

San Pedro, CA. — Applications are now being accepted for the following volunteer opportunity at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium:

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium invites enthusiastic ADULTS to: Make Waves! Share the Sea! Volunteer! We are seeking volunteers to educate school-children about our local ocean environment via docent-led school tours of our exhibit hall and outdoor classroom.

Following 10 weeks of training, docents will choose one morning per week to provide tours during the school year.

A desire to learn about the ocean, and an interest in children are the primary qualifications. Prior knowledge about the ocean is not required.

September 2009 Training Class Forming Now. Class begins Monday, September 14.

Make new friends and make a difference. It’s fun! It’s rewarding and it only takes one morning a week!

The Aquarium invests time and resources each year in training a new docent class. Our knowledgeable docents play a vital role in the Aquarium’s operations, and for this reason, we are seeking committed and reliable trainees. A fee of $30 covers training, a docent manual and textbook.

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is located at 3720 Stephen M. White Drive in San Pedro and is a facility of the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.

For more information regarding these and other volunteer opportunities, please contact Randi Gonzalez, Volunteer Coordinator, at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, (310) 548- 8398 or randi.gonzalez@lacity.org.
