There is a wide range of barcode software development kits. Kits can get very expensive. The following considerations are important when purchasing a software development kit:
Software Development Kit should support the barcode symbology you decide to use.
Software will have a list of compatible barcode symbologies. Not all software will create or read 2D barcodes (PDF417) so ensure that you buy the correct software if using 2D barcodes.
Determine if you have or need a database / tracking system. Some software simply prints barcodes while others let you create an elaborate database for inventory tracking. Make sure that the software easily exports and imports with other databases.
Ensure that the software is compatible with hardware such as barcode label printers and barcode scanners.
