BARCODING SOFTWARE
There is a wide range of barcode software development kits. Kits can get very expensive. The following considerations are important when purchasing a software development kit: Software Development Kit should support the barcode symbology you decide to use. Determine if you have or need a database / tracking system. Some software simply prints barcodes while others let you create an elaborate database for inventory tracking. Make sure that the software easily exports and imports with other databases. Ensure that the software is compatible with hardware such as barcode label printers and barcode scanners.
The following software has been evaluated by SDTDC. ID Automation Barcode Label Software From $129 Demo Available on website. Prints barcode labels and is not a database. Allows information to be imported from comma delimited files (.CSV) and Microsoft Excel and Access Files. Microsoft.net software is required and may cause problems for those who do not have Administrator rights. Supports thermal printing with the proper drivers. Jolly Print Studio 2.0 Range from $200 - $5000. Prices depend on the Edition. Demo Available on website. Prints barcode labels and is not a database. Prints out 1D and 2D barcodes. Allows information to be imported from a comma delimited files (.CSV) and Microsoft Excel and Access Files. Software is very user-friendly. Jolly Technologies offers single-user and multi-user licenses. Strandware Label Matrix Other software not evaluated: Label View, and Codesoft Demo Available by telephone request. Label Matrix is a barcode labeling system that connects directly to an OLE database (MS Access, Excel, FoxPro, SQL, etc.) Although Label Matrix does not support 2D barcodes, Label View and Codesoft supports them. Pocket Label Matrix allows the user to use a PDA and portable printer to create barcode labels. Worth Data LabelRIGHT for Windows $199 www.barcodehq.com/lrwindows.html LabelRIGHT is a barcode printing system that prints information imported by DBF or .CSV files. New feature allows printing directly from Microsoft Excel files. Supports both 1D and 2D barcode labels. Worth Data BarFONT $199 http://www.barcodehq.com/winbarfont.html BarFONT is an actual font that converts text in Microsoft word into 1D barcodes. Bar codes supported are Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 128, UPC/EAN (with or without supplements), Codabar, Code 39, and PostNet -- available in High, Medium, and Low densities. Good for pre-printing labels, but not designed for connecting to a database or used as an inventory tracking system. SynerCard Assure ID Enterprise $1600 http://www.synercard.com/products/enterprise/default.asp Assure ID is a database and barcoding system that is meant for creating identification cards / labels. It supports 1D and 2D barcodes and is also compatible with most label printers. Very user-friendly and has many options to customize the label or ID card. Hiher level functions allow users to create reports and perform data analysis. SYWARE Visual CE $129 - $599 http://www.syware.com/prodlib/win_ce/vce/vce.htm Visual CE is a form builder for the PDA. It is very similar to building a form in MS Access. It also allows the user to synchronize the information collected in the field on the PDA form to a ODBC or OLE database on the desktop computer. Although you do not need to be a computer programmer to use this program, you should have knowledge of basic programming concepts. |
